685: a Bookmania Type Specimen

Bookmania is an iconic typeface created by Paul Simonson. It's inspired by generations of Bookman typefaces who share a large x-height, transitional serifs, and a wide variety of alternate and swash characters. This concept book is meant to represent Bookmania and showcase its ingredients as well as its capabilities.

The Process

Before opening Illustrator or InDesign, I roughly sketched out my entire book to get a sense of what needs to go where. I decided to lay out where all the type would go first, then filling in white space with imagery or demonstrations of what the copy is saying.
